Running an e-commerce agency is a lot like training for a marathon, or even an Ironman. It takes discipline, patience, and the ability to stay calm when everything’s on fire. Both demand long hours, knowing the path is long but going anyway, and a stubborn belief that the finish line is worth it.

How Steve got here

Well he didn’t get here as such… He created here!
Before starting Big Eye Deers, Steve worked across design and development: blending creative direction with hands-on digital craftsmanship. What began as a side project designing websites turned into a fully-fledged agency built on creativity, curiosity, and uncompromising standards. Eighteen years later, Big Eye Deers is one of the UK’s go-to teams for bespoke e-commerce builds – crafting stores that are fast, beautiful, and built to scale.

What he does (officially and otherwise)

Official title: Creative Director.
Unofficially: the glue between vision and delivery.

• Leads discovery: pulls the real problems out of the room, not just the loud ones.
• Shapes digital strategy: makes sure ideas align with business goals and user needs.
• Creative direction: sets the tone, the tempo, and the taste level for every build.
• UX meets ROI: “Does this make sense for the user and the client?” is his favourite loop.
• Quality bar: sweats the details: from micro-interactions to performance budgets.

Favourite project (so far)

Griggs – a Magento rebuild with serious moving parts.
This one pushed every part of the team: design, development, integrations. The challenge? Uniting multiple brands, complex ERP systems, and a modern UX under one clean, high-performing storefront. It’s BED in a nutshell – technical depth with creative precision – and a reminder that the best solutions feel simple on the surface because they’re smart underneath.

When he’s not steering the creative ship, Steve’s training. He’s a triathlete, marathon runner, and cyclist who is planning his next mission after completing Ironman Italy last year.
