Magento 1 end of life has been and gone.
All Magento 1 sites are now unsupported by Magento, what does this all mean?

Keeping your store up to date and secure is more important now than ever with online sales skyrocketing through COVID-19. Shops should be valuing their customers and providing secure platforms for them to shop

Magento 1 stopped being officially supported in June 2020 – this means the core team of developers ensuring the open source software was secure are no longer creating security patches. This can open up a lot of issues going forward, some payment providers may not allow you to take payments if not taken externally as your software isn’t compliant anymore.

Your website will keep running with the current version it’s on, you’ll still be able to use all the functionality you previously could and you can still take orders. However with no further security patches being created you are leaving your website open to hackers and exploits.

More important now than ever with COVID and online sales going up and more important now to have a secure platform and look after your customers.

Cardbleed

An example of what can happen is the recent “Cardbleed” hack. As of September 18th 2020 Magento 1 stores have been infected with Cardbleed, that’s roughly 3% of all M1 stores. This is the single largest attack on Magento 1 stores to date.

Cardbleed is a skimming tool to scrape payment data of customers checking out on compromised M1 stores. As there is no longer security support this will not be officially patched by Magento.

These types of hacks will become more and more common as time goes on and more exploits are found.

What can you do?

Ideally you will need to move to a new platform, the downside to this is there is no simple switch, your website will need to be rebuilt and your data migrated.

What platform should you move to?

We can help you decide which one is best for your current situation.

Magento  2 –  A great platform built for big business with large growth in mind.

Shopify – An amazing platform for small-mid sized businesses, the biggest downside would be it’s lack of customisation which you would probably be used to as a Magento 1 customer.

Aero Commerce – The new kid in town aimed at mid-tier retailers. It delivers performance at a lower hosting cost host which could mean you get much more bang for your buck when you do scale up your solution.

WooA completely customizable, open-source eCommerce platform built on WordPress with the option to add features and extend the functionality of your store
