Meet the Team – Glen

Who am I?
Hey I’m Glen, a full stack developer here at Big Eye Deers. Programming for me started off as a hobby which I then decided to pursue as a career, so I went to university where I studied web development. After finishing university I landed my first job on the south coast for a company called Folk Digital where I was a junior developer. I then moved onto a company in Hay-on-Wye called bwa design where I was a full stack developer before coming to Big Eye Deers.

What do I do?
The work I do here at Big Eye Deers varies quite a lot. From building custom Magento modules or installing 3rd party ones to customising and adding/adjusting functionality in Laravel. I also enjoy finding solutions for any issues that may arise.

Favourite Piece of work?
My favourite project to date is Last Mile Asset Management quotation system where I work closely with the client and other members of the team to deliver new or adjusting existing functionality. With their quotation system always evolving it keeps you on your toes.

Latest Piece of Work?

Latest work I’ve done was looking at ways to improve the loading performance on Online Pool Chemicals Magento store. With this still in development stages I have so far converted images to use WebP format, used lazy loading of images and optimised inline SVG images. With just these couple of changes you can see a good improvement.

What Do you Do For Fun?

When I’m not programming you can find me spending time with my family or up a mountain somewhere on my mountain bike. Also like to go surfing when I can fit it in as I first got into this whilst I was at university. Looking forward to going abroad again soon with a trip to the Alps mountain biking on the cards.
