Meet Pete. He is our problem-solver, coastal dweller, code-reviewer, tabletop tactician – you can be sure he is always playing the long game for clients.

How Pete landed here

Before joining Big Eye Deers, Pete carved out a name as a freelance web developer building bespoke web applications across a broad range of sectors. Then came the move to the Southwest to get married and start a family: new postcode, new priorities, same obsession with clean, reliable code. Somewhere between a flat white and a slightly dull conference, he met Steve. One conversation about architecture turned into a code review… and the rest is BED history.

What he does (and does, and does)

Official title: Tech Lead.
Everyday reality: Pete is the compass for our dev team.

• Engineering leadership: sets patterns, reviews code, keeps our standards tight and our pipelines sane.
• Project shaping: turns fuzzy problems into clear plans – estimates, proposals, roadmaps, the works.
• Client comms: translates “We want it to be faster/nicer/easier” into deliverables and timelines.
• Team support: unblocks builds, balances workloads, and makes sure everyone has what they need to do their best work.

If you’re looking for him day-to-day, he’s probably in the sweet spot where product decisions, technical trade-offs, and delivery meet – headphones on, backlog open, Slack pinging.

Leekes — stabilising a high-traffic eCommerce store.
Memorable for a reason: a tight initial deadline, a complex codebase, and a no-nonsense brief “make it stable.” Pete led the plan:

• Stabilisation: shore up performance, harden checkout reliability, and put monitoring where it matters.
• Delivery: crisp comms, zero fluff, measurable outcomes.
