Gethin’s 11-Year BED Adventure (Yes, 11. Because 10 is far too predictable.)

The one-extra-candle anniversary
Most companies make a big fuss about the 10-year mark. Balloons, cake, slightly awkward plaudit ladened LinkedIn posts, gifts of a new coffee mug you don’t need. But here at Big Eye Deers, we like to keep things interesting, no we didn’t forget – honest.

So, we’re raising a glass (and possibly a BBQ fork) to Gethin’s 11th year with us – because, honestly, the extra year is where the good stuff happens.

How did we get Gethin?
Before he became part of the BED furniture (figuratively), Gethin was an in-house designer for a hair and beauty eCommerce brand. Armed with a degree in Graphic Communication and a bucketload of real-world hustle, he brought the perfect blend of creativity and digital savvy to our fast-paced world. Eleven years later, he’s still here. Either we’re doing something right, or our group chat GIF game is just that strong.

What does he actually do?
Job titles rarely tell the full story, but officially, Gethin is our Designer and Operations Lead. Which means:

• One moment, he’s designing slick online storefronts.
• The next, he’s herding timelines and making sure projects don’t spontaneously combust.

If there’s a deadline or a design attached, chances are, Gethin’s already knee-deep in it.

Favourite Project: Barber Blades
Ask Gethin about his standout project and Barber Blades gets the nod. Why? A dream combo of a chilled-out client, total creative freedom, and a team dynamic that just worked. The kind of gig that reminds you why you got into design in the first place.

What’s he like outside of BED?
Two words: food and travel. When he’s not designing, you’ll find Gethin tracking down the best places to eat, grilling on the BBQ in all weather (yes, even sideways Welsh rain), or plotting his next trip – ideally somewhere with good food… You get the picture.

Parting wisdom for new designers
His advice?

“It’s tough out there now – uni fees are high, the economy’s shaky, AI is shaking things up. But just start. Your first job doesn’t need to be perfect – you’ll learn by doing. Be adaptable (UX, UI, branding, print), and don’t sleep on soft skills. Being easy to work with goes further than you’d think.”

Why are we really celebrating?
Because 11 years at Big Eye Deers is no small feat. From junior designer to senior operator, Gethin’s grown with us every step of the way. That longevity and skill is why clients return to us and we are super lucky to have him.
