Updating your SEO strategy for 2018. What you need to know…

If you intend on investing valuable time and money into your SEO (search engine optimisation) strategy in 2018, you just might want to revisit it first.

What is SEO?

Search engine optimisation is the process of amending web pages and content to be more search-engine friendly. Search engines have a series of processes to return results to a search query which ultimately decide where your page ranks within those results. Although page rank isn’t the be-all and end-all of click-throughs, it’s an important factor for organic engagement. These processes are called algorithms.

Google’s algorithms have continued to update, making it difficult for non-SEO experts to keep up with the changes and new rules. So, let us share with you a quick rundown of the algorithms so you can begin to understand the correct techniques and methods to use to rank for your targeted keywords.

To review, if you wish to have success with your SEO strategy, DO NOT:

  • Plagiarise content. Duplicates are a no, no.
  • Keyword stuff content.
  • Pay for backlinks or create fake accounts to post spammy content.
  • Share pirated content from high copyright infringement sites.
  • Confuse Google with multiple addresses and info. Keep it consistent.
  • Ignore analytics. Bounce rate and visit durations are important.
  • Overuse affiliate links and ads.

And, DO:

  • Research keywords for highly-engaged, low-competition words.
  • Use keywords consistently in the title, description, H titles and link anchor text.
  • Guest post informative blog posts to a relevant high-authority website.
  • Consider search ads utilising keywords.
  • Stick to mobile-first content to take precedent in crawling and indexing.
  • Optimise web-pages to achieve a faster loading time.
  • Hire ethical SEOs if you cannot manage an SEO strategy yourself.
