As most of you now know, the clock is ticking following the announcement made last year regarding the end of Magento 1 support. In November 2015, Magento launched the highly anticipated Magento 2.0, which resolved a lot of the common frustrations with the current platform and offered a brand new experience for retailers with a whole host of shiny new features.

However, during the release of 2.0, Magento also announced, they will eventually terminate support for Magento 1, meaning retailers needed to start preparing for the upgrade to Magento 2. Now for the majority, you’ve probably already put a plan in place for migration over to 2.0, but for those who haven’t yet, let’s take a look at what to expect over the next year.

Magento 1 Enterprise/ Magento Commerce

As you can see from the information below released by Magento, support will continue until June 2020, to break it down…

Enterprise Editions 1.9, 1.10, 1.11, 1.12 will benefit from security patches ONLY (classed as minor updates) until June 2020.

Enterprise Editions 1.13 – 1.14 will benefit from full support including security patches and quality fixes until June 2020.

Magento Open Source/ Community Edition

For retailers using Magento Open Source 1 (formerly known as Community Edition) versions 1.5 – 1.9, will continue to receive the latest security patches ONLY until June 2020.

So if you are still operating using the Magento 1 platform, you should see migrating over to Magento 2.0 as an opportunity to grow your business and look to the future. The countdown is on until the end of Magento 1 support, talk to us today and we can help find the right solution for your business.
